“Movement is life and without movement life is unthinkable.” – Moshe Feldenkrais

Feldenkrais is a form of somatic movement education that uses awareness to learn about our movement habits, preferences and about our limits. Investigating the connections and functional relationships of our musculoskeletal and nervous system we learn about how we move and interact in the world. It introduces a wider vocabulary of movements that can give us more options and possibilities to choose from for intelligent actions.

Feldenkrais is taught in group classes called Awareness Through Movement or individual lessons called Functional Integration.

The Feldenkrais Method enhances quality of life through learning to pay closer attention to how we move, getting to know ourselves better by being curious and feeling our way deeper into our being.

“What I’m after isn’t flexible bodies, but flexible minds and to restore each person to their human dignity.” – Moshe Feldenkrais

Awareness Through Movement classes consist of lessons that offer an opportunity to study our patterns and learn about ourselves. The movements are often unusual, seemingly simple, done slowly, small and with attention. Some lessons can grow into more dynamic or larger movements too. The important element is cultivating awareness and an internal sense of movements and possibilities.

The classes will help you move more easily, efficiently and gracefully by eliminating unnecessary tension and effort. You will feel more relaxed and alive, enjoying better posture, breathing and freedom from pain.

These classes are an approach of the Feldenkrais Method set in a safe small group environment sensitively facilitated by Judit.

Classes mostly involve participants recumbent on the floor while being verbally guided through gentle movement explorations.

You will need to bring a mat or blanket to lie on and to wear warm and comfortable clothes which allow easy movement.

People with muscular or skeletal injuries, pain or tension, limitation in movement, who have difficulty sitting, standing and walking will benefit from these classes. They are also ideal for those who wish to improve their sport, drama, dance or music performance skills.

Just as in the group classes, the individual lessons aim to bring awareness to how we organise ourselves, expand movement options and new functional motor connections that feel good and require less effort. In a Functional Integration lesson this happens through gentle, but specific touch adapted to each individuals abilities and needs.

You will be first consulted on the difficulties you experience.  This will be followed by a hands on approach lying or sitting on a low ‘table’. Please wear clothes that allow easy movement and will keep you warm.

These lessons can be helpful for people with musculoskeletal problems, tensions, pains, aches, stiffness, limited movement or hyper mobility. Or people who would like to improve their skills at sports, dance, music, drama. Functional Integration lessons may be helpful for people with movement disorders and are appropriate for a wide range of people of all ages and abilities.

FI lessons are hugely benficial for infants and children with neurological and developmental challenges.

Another lovely video about the method with a demonstration of graceful movements.
