Do you experience tightness in your shoulders? Headaches? Pain in the neck? Are you feeling stressed?
The carriage of our head and shoulders is strongly determined by the organisation of our spine, chest/ribcage and pelvis.
The repetitive and habitual movements that we do and the positions we sometimes stay for a long time shape us.
Furthermore the use of our eyes, jaw; the expressions of our mental and emotional states have all got corresponding physical responses often in a form of muscular tension or skeletal shifts in the area of our shoulders, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis.
Our musculature and skeleton adjust according to the way we use it.
As our form follows function, our movements can slowly become more limited and feel like a lot of effort. Perhaps we often feel tired and get stressed easily. We might find ourselves avoiding certain movements or activities we used to enjoy, due to fear of injury or it being too much to cope with.
In this workshop we will be looking to mobilise and integrate parts of our spine to find the most neutral support for our head, by this relieving the muscles from the extra or unnecessary tension.
We will attend to the rib basket/our chest to find movement and balance between the two sides as well as the front and back.
This will offer our shoulders a foundation to rest on and our arms to move out from, while staying connected to our torso.
By utilising the power of our pelvis and legs, we can draw strength to transfer and distribute throughout ourselves.
The beauty of the Feldenkrais Method is that you feel into the movements from inside out.
You can begin to listen, connect and inhabit your body on a deeper level.
This way of moving and being – we can call it embodiment – can bring us ease and vitality. It’s possible too, that past experiences stored in our body can surface which may feel vulnerable.
You will be guided through carefully chosen and designed Awareness Through Movement lessons. The movement explorations are done small and slow to allow you to track your experience and stay in control of it in a safe and kind environment.
